Creating and Managing Super User Accounts

By default, the Soltra Edge server allows only one “admin” account. We know there are times when you need to grant another user on your team admin level rights for your Soltra Edge server. As a result, you are able to create “Super User” accounts that have admin privileges.

Super User Account Creation

To create a Super User account, SSH into your Soltra Edge server and run the following command sudo edgectl createsuperuser

Fill in the fields requested in the post command entry

Once you have created your Super User, log into the web admin for your Soltra Edge server and go to Settings > User (or refresh your page if you are already there) and you will see your Super User created.

As seen in the screenshot above, all Super User accounts are created in a locked state, so you will need to unlock your Super User account for them to be able to log in.

To unlock the super user account, please run the following command sudo usermod –unlock {username}

Log into your Soltra Edge server (or refresh your Users page if you are already there) and notice that the unlocked box has been selected for the Super User account.

Promoting and Demoting users from Super User rights

Any user that was created as a Super User cannot be managed via the Soltra Edge Users page. You must use the CLI for managing these users.

Promoting a user to Super User

SSH into your Soltra Edge server and run the following command to identify the current role for user Patty.

sudo edgectl usermod –list-roles Patty

As seen above, user Patty does have the Super User role currently. This is also displayed if Patty logs into the web UI.

Setting options are greyed out and the user name is not in red since user Patty doesn’t have Super User.

To give Patty Super User execute the following command.

sudo edgectl usermod add-roles=superuser Patty

Verify Super User via the List Roles option again.

When Patty logs into the web UI, all Settings options will be restored.

All Settings features are restored and Patty's user account is shown in red, indicating admin level access.

Demoting a User

To demote a user from having Super User execute the following command.

sudo edgectl usermod –remove-roles=superuser Patty

This can be confirmed by using the CLI and web UI.
